Google wafts $200M to Texas wind farm

The 161-megawatt Spinning Spur Wind Project in Oldham County boasts 70 Siemens wind turbines of 2.3 megawatts each. Google says the farm produces enough juice to power more than 60,000 homes in the U.S.

Xperia T/TX/TL Jelly Bean firmware certified ahead of release

Sony's first round of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-based firmware has passed through certification at the PCTRB forum, a usual indicator that the update is just a few weeks away from being pushed out to handsets. Firmware for the international Xperia T and TX and the AT&T Xperia TL has passed certification, meaning those handsets should be first in line for the Sony Jelly Bean upgrade. In the case of the Xperia TL, carrier certification may lead to a slight delay, but TL owners can rest assured that the bulk of the work is done.

Late last year Sony promised to release Jelly Bean updates for the Xperia T and TX in "mid-Q1," so it looks like things are going according to schedule. If you own one of those phones, we recommend keeping an eye out for the update in mid-to-late February.

Boombox Rex Kickstarter

It is generally agreed upon among skaters of a certain age (old) that skating with headphones is a no-no.  Half of skating is hanging out with friends and wearing headphones isolates you from everyone else. The good people at Boombotix have a new speaker called the Boombot Rex in the works which allows you to listen to your music with your friends or inflict your music on everyone around you while your phone or other bluetooth device remains  in your pocket. You can also interface with your phone, use Siri, answer phone calls, etc through the Rex. 

Boombotix are funding the project on Kickstarter allowing you to get it at a discounted price before it is released to the world through traditional retailers. You have until January 12 to get in on the Kickstarter before the price goes up so get on it.

White Nexus 4 pictured, looks like a Nexus 4 in white

The photo above could well be our first look at the LG Nexus 4 in white. The shot was sent in to PhoneArena by an anonymous tipster, and seems to show the current Nexus phone with a white exterior and silver-trimmed LED flash. As with any image of unknown origin, there's no way to guarantee its veracity, but we have to say it looks real enough to us.

The full 13MP original can be inspected over at the source link, and we've got an expanded view of the lens and flash after the break. If nothing else, the difficulty involved in fabricating an image of this size is a point in its favor.

We've also heard whispers of a white Nexus 4 being in the works in the weeks since the original black model launched. And remember that LG already offers a white version of the Optimus G, the phone upon which the N4 is based. The previous two Nexus phones have been available in white too, albeit in limited quantities.

Intel bringing 'Yolo' smartphone to untapped foreign markets

Intel, in partnership with integrated communications provider Safaricom, announced a new entry-level smartphone designed for developing markets this week, dubbing the device the "Yolo."

The device is powered by an Atom Z2420 SoC, a 1.2GHz chip based on a 32nm process and boasting support for 1080p video and 8MP image capture. The Yolo will be an Android-based device, though the company did not indicate which version of the mobile platform would be used. It will also have a 3.5-inch screen, HSPA+ capability and support for global roaming.
